Baker's Keyboard Lounge, Detroit's hotspot for jazz - it's there that Sam runs into his childhood friend, Johnny Delbeck, and Johnny's got a problem. A little over three months ago, Johnny and his wife, Grace, took in her niece. Myrna Lou Stevic had been nothing but trouble for her mother, Grace's sister, and her stepfather. Grace thinks she can turn the girl's behavior around by getting her into a new school and getting her involved in the church youth group. One Monday in April, the seventeen year old was sitting on the porch of the Delbeck's Dearborn home one minute, and in the next, she was gone. Did she just walk away on her own - something she's done in the past - or did something more sinister occur? This is what Johnny hires Sam to find out. Five days before Easter 1943, Sam tries to ensure her presence for the holiday. But when he starts asking questions, the picture others paint of this girl isn't pretty, and it's obvious there are few who really like her. The Detroit private detective wants to solve Johnny's problem - and he wants the ending to be a good one. Can he find the girl and return her to the home in Dearborn, safe and sound?
Sins of the Father The Case Files of Sam Flanagan Volume 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Judith White Gary Regal World Castle Publishing Books
I just finished the second book in Judith White’s Case Files of Sam Flanagan. This investigation hits detective Sam Flanagan a little closer to home when the niece of a childhood friend goes missing.Having read the first book in this series, I was glad to spend time with these characters again, especially Sam’s grandmother. The banter that goes on between some of the secondary characters had me laughing out loud. I also enjoy the “voice” in this book, and I appreciate White’s ability to develop several characters and situations that have you leaning one way then another, only to be surprised later on. I was guessing “who done it?” right up to the very end.
The time period and setting really come to life in this story, transporting the reader back to Detroit, Michigan in the 1940s. We get to listen to the jazz music at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge and watch a cook prepare hamburgers at a White Castle. A lot of the little details feel so real for this time period. This book was a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy a good detective mystery.

Sins of the Father The Case Files of Sam Flanagan Volume 2 (Audible Audio Edition) Judith White Gary Regal World Castle Publishing Books Reviews
Looked forward to reading Judith's second book and I was not disappointed at all. The interesting little twist in this book was that it referred back to the first book on quite a few occasions. Sam was as convincing in all ways and after a little while it was as if you almost second guess some of his moves. Uncle Derwood coming into play was totally off the wall and brilliant. Gran's friend Helen and the two ladies sipping away on their beverages at times was funny and certainly off the wall. Myrna Loy was the girl that was kept on the back burner throughout the investigation. Seemingly so that Sam could completely take you by surprise when his investigation was complete. A wonderful read and very, very, enjoyable. Could not put the book down.
Gram and her crazy relatives are at it again - Poor Sam. This is a great book with really colorful characters. We all have someone who is like Uncle Derwood, a lovable gentlemen with a wee touch of the devil in him. Sam is trying to find a missing teenager for an old friend. His relatives want to help and that's never good. I was totally unprepared for the many twists in this book. In my opinion, this is the best Judith White book in her Sam Flanagan series.
Another great mystery for Sam to solve. His detective work takes you down different paths but a good detective always gets the job done. A surprise ending, but NO Peeking. One really starts getting to know Sam's family in this book. They are sweet, funny and of course a little irritating. Looking forward to "Drowning in Deception" but can't start until after Christmas.
Just like " A Method to Madness" The Case Files of Sam Flanagan, "Sins of the Father" deeply touched every emotion in my body. Judith White has brought to life a man, in Sam Flanagan, that I dearly love....I honestly feel that I am close by his side, weather he is drinking a cup of coffee...or silently sizing someone up in his mind. I loved the many characters that he is surrounded by in this book.. ...the love he has for his friends and family... and the justice he is determined to find for Myrna Lou. I couldn't put this book down until I finished reading it ... It made me want to gather my family together...crawl in the pages of the book, and live with them there forever...It is a tender, sad, ,funny, and very shocking mystery....a really good read.
Totally enjoyed Judith White's second book in the Sam Flanagan Files - Sins of the Father! She once again takes us back to 1940's Detroit and a new mystery! Her attention to details in the books' setting is wonderful! Having grown up in the Dearborn/Detroit area I could visualize all the places she writes about. My favorite characters are back. Sam, of course, and his grandmother, but a new favorite has emerged for me too. Sam's Uncle Derwood. A very charming, elderly gentleman that helps Sam just a wee bit with this case. The case is about a teen girl that goes missing and Sam is needed to unravel the mystery about how and why. It's very well written and keeps you guessing until what really happened is revealed. Definitely worth your time to sit and have an enjoyable book to read! Hoping there is another book in the works for the Sam Flanagan Files!
I liked this book very much. Sam is a private investigator. He lives with his grandmother, a sweet little old lady who likes her booze. I'm not sure why he lives with her. This is the first book that I have read in the series. When I started this one, I did not even realize this was #2. Nevertheless, it was not hard to follow everything with Sam and his job. Sam is definitely one of the good guys. He is following a missing persons case for a good friend. Each lead seems to lead him nowhere; he always seem to hit a brick wall. It was a good mystery that kept me guessing till the end. I had several theories about "whodunit," but I kept changing my mind. I wasn't even close. I did not see that one coming. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a good, clean, uncomplicated mystery.
After reading Judy's first book, A Method to Madness, I could not wait to see what Sam would be up to in Sins of the Father.
This book does not disappoint.
Story takes place in the 1940's, but after reading this, you will agree, Sam could be just as charming and successful in the year 2015.
After all, he lives with his grannie who is a great character herself.
Sam continues his PI adventures in Detroit after being hired to find Myrna Lou Stevic, a 17 year old troubled teen, who mysteriously disappears from her porch.
You will find yourself in Sam's shoes from the very beginning of his new case.
But will you figure out what happens before Sam?
I am so excited that Judy's third book, Opened Wounds, will be released this week.
What a wonderful way to start the New Year.
